Frequently Asked Questions

General & Appointments

Q: Do I need a GP referral to book an appointment with Space of Mind Solutions?

A: No, a formal GP referral is not strictly required to request an assessment at our clinic, though having one is useful. Otherwise, you can initiate the enrollment process yourself directly through our website.

Q: Will I get a written report once the assessment is completed?

A: Dr Yariv Doron collaborates closely with GPs to ensure long-term care stability. A comprehensive clinical summary of the session will be securely shared with your child’s GP via Elixir EHR, unless you explicitly request otherwise.

Q: How can I book a child psychiatry session, and when are new spaces available?

A: Appointments must be requested online through our intake form during designated enrollment dates. Because child and adolescent psychiatric services are in high demand across New Zealand, our books open on a quarterly schedule. Our next enrollment date is published on our page (click here for our enrollment page) at 08:00 AM sharp, at which point the intake form will go live. Once our clinical team reviews your details to confirm we are the correct service for your family, our admin manager will email you a dedicated booking link.

Q: Can I get a follow-up appointment?

A: Yes, the service includes follow-up sessions, mainly for clients who require medication adjustments and review of your child's clinical presentation across time. Follow-up sessions can also be requested years after your initial appointment, as long as your child has not graduated from high school.

Q: Will I be able to get my prescriptions through the clinic?

A: Prescriptions (when indicated) will be provided by Dr Doron during your consultation. Repeat prescriptions can also be ordered via our website (using this link). Please note that your child would require a follow-up with your GP or Dr Doron every 3-6 months to remain eligible for repeat prescriptions.

Specialist & ADHD Assessments

Q: Does an online ADHD assessment work the same as an in-person assessment for children in New Zealand?

A: An online ADHD assessment works the same way as an in-person one. Both include a comprehensive consultation, an objective digital cognitive test, and collateral data from your child's school. The process involves a 60-minute video diagnostic interview with Dr Yariv Doron, an online at-home attention test (MOXO), and behavioural questionnaires gathered from your child’s teachers. This holistic framework ensures a robust, legally recognised diagnosis without requiring families from outside our region to travel.

Q: Do we need to see a psychologist before getting an ADHD diagnosis?

A: No, there is no requirement to see a psychologist before booking an ADHD assessment with us. As a fully qualified Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist (MD, RANZCP), Dr Yariv Doron is medically authorised to independently evaluate, diagnose, and provide both behavioural advice and pharmacological (medication) management plans for ADHD, Autism, anxiety, and complex developmental disorders.

Q: What is the MOXO test, and how is it used during the assessment?

A: The MOXO test is a scientifically validated, online continuous performance test used to objectively measure attention span, timing, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. The test is included in the cost of our ADHD assessment and is completed by your child on a computer at home before the clinical consultation. By introducing real-world visual and auditory environmental stressors, this approach provides Dr Doron with measurable data on how your child processes tasks compared to their exact peer age demographic.

Telehealth, Privacy & AI Technology

Q: How do telehealth psychiatry appointments work, and are they safe?

A: Telehealth sessions are conducted via secure, medical-grade, end-to-end encrypted video software and are proven to be as clinically effective as in-person visits. Telehealth allows your child to remain relaxed in the comfort of their familiar home environment. Furthermore, parents living in separate households can easily join the evaluation simultaneously from different geographic locations using the exact same link. For local Taranaki families, optional in-person appointments are available at our clinic in New Plymouth.

Q: How does Space of Mind Solutions use AI, and is my child's data protected?

A: We utilise an advanced AI medical scriber called Heidi to draft clinical notes, allowing Dr Doron to focus 100% of his attention on interacting with your child rather than typing on a screen. We also implement core Privacy Protections:

  • No Audio Storage: The AI tool securely transcribes the session but never stores audio recordings.

  • Strict Data Compliance: The data is fully encrypted and compliant with international health privacy frameworks (HIPAA, SOC, PHIPA) and NZ’s data requirements. Your data is never used to train future AI models.

  • Clinical Oversight: Dr Doron manually reviews, edits, and writes the final official note.

  • Your Control: Families have the absolute right to opt out of AI scribing at any point during their care.
